Open Air

The Kelley Companies

19th-century former school given new life as a mixed-use development.

Overview

Once an “open air school” reserved for children at risk of contracting tuberculosis, this historic building underwent a radical transformation. With the help of historic tax credits, our team converted the historic structure into a commercial hub with a diverse mix of local businesses. Tenants include Emmett’s Cafe, the Butcher Shop Fitness, Joshua Schottenstein Pottery, and Understory, a restaurant and bar featuring a tucked-in patio overlooking the Tuttle Park woods to the west.

Schooley Caldwell also designed renovations to the exterior, including to the windows, masonry, and roof.
